Editorial Review of Agave Bar & Grill

Sup some ceviche
Sure, sure. As the name implies, this is a restaurant. But make no mistake—Agave is serious about its tequila. One glance at the menu more than backs that assertion, with 50-plus types of tequila up for grabs along with a roster of exclusively tequila-based cocktails.

Don't let the long list—with Talapa for $6.75 to a shot of Romance for $14—intimidate you, though. The servers are as knowledge as the tequila list is long and seem happy to provide recommendations and impart a little wisdom. Take a tequila crash course by ordering a Flight of Fancy, where $8-$22 will get you a flight of three tequilas accompanied with homemade sangrita (a tangy drink meant to be slowly sipped). In the realm of mixed drinks, the Agave Ardiente, shaken Don Julio Blanco and pomegranate juice and topped off with sparkling wine, is a particularly light and tasty option.

From homemade guacamole to pescado sarandeado (whole yellowtail snapper basted with a beer and herb marinade), Agave's menu ranges from munchies to full meals, with Mexican takes on pork chops, beef tenderloin tips and scallops being big draws. The desserts are intricate, inventive and, at less than $7 each, almost demand that you order one to finish off a meal.

The atmosphere inside Agave is relaxed and intimate, allowing you plenty of time to sit and sip at the narrow space's long bar or at one of the high chairs and tawny booths.
